ACC brings Shakespeare & Company's A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM
to Agawam students and the general public!
One of New England's premier professional theatre companies delivers the timeless classics of William Shakespeare to students and the public at large, courtesy of the Agawam Cultural Council. In live shortened versions, they deliver all the humor, heartbreak and wisdom of the Bard's great plays, in a way that no classroom reading can ever hope to match. And Shakespeare & Company's educational programs inspire a new generation of students and scholars to discover the resonance of Shakespeare's truths in the everyday world, demonstrating the influence that classical theatre can still have within a community.
Immediately following the performance, the acting company will engage the audience in a 15-minute talkback/ discussion session. In addition, Shakespeare and Company will present one of two workshops for local student participation: either "In Performance," where individual students will be given, and coached on, a line of dialogue to speak during an actual scene - or - "Actor / Audience," where students in the audience become the director, deciding how the actors should perform the scene at hand (usually taken from the full play being presented that year).
About the Company
Located in the culturally-rich Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts in Lenox, Shakespeare & Company aspires to create a Theatre of unprecedented excellence rooted in the classical ideals of inquiry, balance, and harmony; a company that performs as the Elizabethans did -- in love with poetry, physical prowess, and the mysteries of the universe. With a core of over 150 artists, the company performs the works of William Shakespeare and others, generating opportunities for collaboration between actors, directors, and designers of all races, nationalities, and backgrounds. Shakespeare & Company provides original, in-depth, classical training and performance methods. The company also develops and produces new plays of social and political significance.
