ACC makes Musical Petting Zoo available
to Agawam Kindergartens
Youngsters in Agawam are in for a special treat as the Musical Petting Zoo visits our Elementary Schools' Kindergarten classes. The Springfield Symphony Orchestra's Outreach Department, with the sponsorship of the Agawam Cultural Council, presents this LIVE, hands-on exhibit of musical instruments. The goal is to introduce younger children to the wonders of such instruments as the violin, horn, and drum. They can bow a stringed instrument, blow into -- or across -- a brass or woodwind, or tap out rhythms on percussion. An audience of fifty or fewer children at each performance helps to ensure that each student who wishes to, can try their hand at these instruments -- up close and personal!
Students attending the presentation will receive an Activity Book that includes information, coloring activities, and games about orchestral instruments. Patrick McMahon ("Zookeeper" for the Springfield Symphony) has worked closely with the schools to make this a fun and worthwhile experience for all involved.
The Agawam Cultural Council hopes teachers and parents will take advantage of this program, presented FREE to the schools as part of the Council's *Give Back to the Community* program.
(Musical Petting Zoo visits for up to 50 children are billed at $135 per 1-hour session. Additional sessions for the same date and location are billed at the rate of $100 per hour.)
