About Us

The Agawam Cultural Council is an all-volunteer local partner of the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, and is funded, in part, by the MCC.
The ACC is charged with advancing the Arts in our community by dispersing state-provided monies via a grant application process. In addition, utilizing funds from our own fundraising efforts -- including freewill audience donations -- we have made it our mission to present a range of engaging, entertaining, and educational events open to audiences of all ages
from Agawam and the surrounding communities.

Here are a few of our "Give Back to the Community" projects (past and present):

  • Three $1,000 grants to Agawam High School students seeking careers in music, art, or writing.
  • Annual public writing competitions with awards for children and adults.
  • Performances at the Agawam Senior Center.
  • Free drawings for tickets to Children's Theatre performances at the Majestic Theater (in West Springfield), plus tickets to Majestic Theater Summer Programs for children participating in library-held contests.
  • Domestic and Foreign Film Festivals presented at the Agawam Cinemas.
  • A fully-staged professional production presented each year at the Agawam High School by Shakespeare & Co. -- free and open to the public.
  • Springfield Symphony Orchestra's "Musical Petting Zoo" presented to 1st and 2nd grades and/or Kindergartens in the Agawam Schools -- at no cost to the schools.
  • Annual Applause Series events, each month from September to June, presented free and open to the public with a variety of guests including authors, historians, musical groups, and dancers!
  • Donations to the "Friends of the Agawam Public Library" supporting their Open Juried Art and Photography Shows.
  • Donations to the libraries of all four Elementary schools and the Middle School (formerly
    the Roberta G. Doering School).

We also offer affordable NYC bus trips in May and November, and we sponsor and participate in the SummerFest FREE Outdoor Concert Series presented each year in Agawam's School Street Park by the Agawam Parks and Recreation Department.
