Musical Petting Zoo to visit Agawam Elementary Schools

First and Second Graders in Agawam are in for a special treat as the Musical Petting Zoo visits the various Elementary Schools during the winter months. The Springfield Symphony Orchestra Outreach Department with the sponsorship of the Agawam Cultural Council will be presenting this informative hands-on exhibit of musical instruments. The goal is to introduce children to the wonders of such instruments as the violin, horn, and drum. They can bow a string instrument, blow a woodwind and tap rhythms out on percussions. The fifty children or less at each performance will insure that each student who wishes to try their hand at these instruments will be afforded the opportunity.

Andrea LaPlace, Chair Person of the Agawam Cultural Council Musical Petting Zoo program, said “the children will not leave empty handed”. The school children will receive an Activity Book that includes information, coloring activities, and games about orchestra instruments. Laura Fontaine of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra has worked closely with the schools to make this a worthwhile experience for all involved. The Agawam Cultural Council hopes to continue to sponsor many programs of this nature throughout the town as part of their Give Back to The Community facet of the organization.
