About the Grant for the Arts

The Agawam Cultural Council, believing that students showing interest in the Arts as a career should be encouraged in that pursuit, created the "Grant for the Arts". There are two one-thousand dollar grants to be awarded each year to two deserving students of a high-school age residing in the Town of Agawam . These grants shall be used to assist in furthering their education or participation in those disciplines related to enhancing the cultural life of our community.

The grant will financially assist an individual in obtaining education related to pursuing a career in the cultural arts. Grant money will be awarded for a cultural project that promotes education, excellence, diversity, and access in the Arts, Humanities, and Interpretive Sciences. Arts refer to the creation of work in the crafts and performing visual, media, folk, design, literary, and interdisciplinary arts. Humanities are types of learning that deal with human values and aspirations, human thought and culture, language, and creativity. Example: history, social studies, philosophy, criticism and literature. Interpretive Sciences engage people of all ages in learning about nature, science, and technology in ways that explain how they relate to people's lives. Some organizations that conduct this type of activity include aquariums, botanical gardens, nature centers, natural history museums, planetariums, and science centers. Some examples of use of grant: Attend a camp or seminar in elected field, instruction either with a mentor or a class, assistance with the cost of materials, instruments, or apparatus.
